The past decade has seen a surge in attention to supporting countries affected by and recovering from conflict.
A parallel growth has also occurred in the number of professionals working in the fields of humanitarian, development and post-conflict recovery policymaking and practice. They are faced with a myriad of challenges associated with contexts transitioning from conflict to peace, yet rarely have the opportunity to reflect upon the critical concepts, practical challenges and policy dilemmas involved in supporting effective transitions.
2012 Course - 18 - 25 July 2012, University of York
The third Advanced Course on Conflict, Crisis and Transitions offered by the Humanitarian Policy Group and the Post-War Reconstruction and Development Unit at the University of York aims to facilitate learning and guided reflection on these crucial issues. The course will bring together mid-career and senior professionals in York for one week each summer. Course participants will engage in a participatory learning process that combines lectures with small group discussions and exercises, with the possibility of publishing an analytical piece.
28/05/2012 - 01/06/2012
The course is designed for entry and mid-level water and development policy-makers and professionals in government, donor, NGO or implementing agencies. A number of places will be made available to environmental journalists, consultants and activists wishing to take their knowledge on water resources further. Participants are expected to acquire a wide variety of tools and analytical frameworks from a variety of disciplines. While the focus is on policy, the extensive field and analytical competence of the lecturers ensures that participants benefit from grounded theory and experience

Background
Various regional cities in China have been designated by Beijing as demonstration centres for low carbon infrastructure and sustainable urban development under a "Sustainable Cities" programme.
UKTI has signed cooperation agreements with four of these cities. In each, UKTI is working with the municipal and provincial governments to identify projects for which participation by UK companies is sought to assist them in achieving their ambitious Sustainable City targets.
The four cities are Wuhan, Chongqing, Changsha and Hangzhou. This mission will provide a unique opportunity for UK businesses interested in sustainable urban infrastructure development to see the range and scale of the opportunities at first-hand in two of these cities.
Opportunities for UK companies in Chongqing and Changsha include:
- Sustainable Construction process, products and techniques
- Master Planning, Urban Regeneration and Design

- Waste Water and Solid Waste Treatment
- Low-carbon technologies
